FigmaOverview
The myEnergy portal provides customers within the distribution areas of CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy access to information and services related to power at their properties, including energy usage, solar output, outage notification preferences, feedback and disputes, and various service request forms.
My role
As Product Designer, I collaborated with delivery leads and product owners to understand customer needs and design digital solutions for myEnergy.
My responsibilities include user interface and experience design, prototyping, customer journey mapping, and usability testing throughout the product development lifecycle.
Projects and achievements
Multi-factor authentication
In order to comply with government regulations for essential service providers, multi-factor authentication had to be implemented on all public-accessible portals during 2024.
I designed user flows, prototypes and branded experiences for myEnergy, and 'white label' versions for business use with other customer-facing portals that didn't share the myEnergy branding. These were developed, tested and implemented by the Product team and launched successfully before the mandated deadline.
Privacy and UI improvements
To improve privacy between users maintaining a shared interest in common properties within myEnergy, a role and permission system was implemented to give electricity account holders oversight into third-party users who wish to access information related to their property, such as relatives or partners.
This required several UI paradigm changes to incorporate role display and permission management, and modifications to existing user flows such as 'Add a property'.
I designed a more streamlined property management and 'Add a contact' UI experience, and added features that enable electricity account holders to grant and deny permission to third-party users on their properties.
Design system uplift
Improvements to the existing design system elements within Figma and front-end include:
- Mapping of brand colours to colour variables to enable efficiency between design and front-end
- Implementation of Figma variable modes to enable fast CitiPower/Powercor and UE brand switching
- Rebuild of design system branded icons and implementation of update plan for front-end
- Responsive rebuild of page-level components such as headers, banners and footers
- Accessibility improvements across input elements to meet WCAG 2.2 standards
Accessibility improvements
- Initiated workshops to introduce the concept of digital accessibility to customer and Product teams
- Raised risks of non-compliance to the business and worked to have accessibility improvements added to the Product pipeline of work through 2025, attracting dedicated funding
- Performed automated and manual testing across myEnergy to produce a prioritised issue remediation list
- Worked with Product team members to introduce automated and manual testing processes to help embed accessibility as a business-as-usual activity
- Made improvements to Figma design system elements to improve WCAG compliance
- Documented accessibility overview, common myEnergy issues, solutions and testing processes in Confluence to help team improve accessibility knowledge
